Cook Islands Māori Language Week is an opportunity to celebrate the rich language, culture, and traditions of the Cook Islands people. 🌺
The 2026 theme is “Me kite koe i te tuatua i to'ou reo tupuna, e turanga rangatira tena nō'ou no te uki amuri atu” - With our language as our foundation, we will embrace the future.
The Cook Islands are home to many treasured cultural ta'onga, including black pearls, traditional carvings, and vibrant drumming and dance. These traditions carry stories, identity, and knowledge that continue to be shared across generations.
Meitaki ma'ata to our Cook Islands Pacific Matua Council member, Matua Urama, who in the video below shares her insights into two special ta'onga traditionally created for women, helping us learn more about the richness of Cook Islands culture and heritage.
